Maria Carrera was born in the District of Columbia and aimed for an academic life, but directing plays changed her course. Her theatre career led to a home base in San Diego, where she stage managed at the Old Globe Theatre and taught Alexander Technique for MFA actors in training programs at USD and UCSD. Now retired, she lives with her husband Corey Fayman, author of the Rolly Waters mysteries.
