Lily Finch

March 5, 1962
An Ontario writer, Lily Finch crafts short stories that blend fiction and nonfiction. She earned three Bachelor of Arts honours degrees in Religious Studies, Spanish Language and Literature, and English Language and Literature from the University of Windsor. In addition to those degrees, she earned a Master of Arts in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University in Sooke, British Columbia.

Lily Finch writes literary fiction, thrillers, horrors, and crime stories. She also draws her creative nonfiction from the stories people have shared throughout her life journey. Her work has been published in Half Hour to Kill, Spillwords, The Write Launch, and Half and One, among others. She made the long list for the Globe Soup Short Story Competition and earned an honourable mention in the 24-Hour Writing Contest.

For most of the month, Lily writes in her backyard with her faithful companion. When she is not writing, she enjoys the same outdoor space with her children and husband, playing in the pool or on the trampoline. She enjoys trips where she can bike, hike, swim, kayak, and camp, carrying her pack as she moves along kilometre-long trails. Her family enjoys a private location in a Central American country every two years for half a month.

Lily embraces happiness in life; she views it as a gift

I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size    But when I start to tell them, They think I’m telling lies. I say, It’s in the reach of my arms, The span of my hips,    The stride of my step,    The curl of my lips.    I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman,    That’s me.
